The Kurayoshi Pure Malt Whiskey
A coworker of mine recently took a trip to Japan. When he returned he gave me a bottle of Kurayoshi pure malt whiskey which was aged in a sherry cask. I have never tried any kind of whiskey from Japan so this was going to be a new experience for me. He told me that the Japanese whiskey market was drying up until about 10 years ago and it has made a big come back among the young hipsters in Japan. This whiskey is mild to the nose with hints of oak and apple. On the tongue it is as smooth as any whiskey I have had the pleasure to enjoy. It is very smooth and goes down easy. The warmth lingers and only adds to the experience. On my 0 to 5 scale, this gets a 5. This whiskey is available in the U.S., the closest location I can find it a Total Wine in Roseville, California. I was in Los Angeles a few weeks ago but had no way to bring anything back home with me. This is a small 200ml bottle so it will only be consumed for special occasions.
